Accessibility statement

Last reviewed

I want everyone to be able to use this site, including people who use a screen reader, screen magnification, voice control or a keyboard instead of a mouse. This statement covers every page on hamzatekin.dev.

Conformance status

This site fully conforms to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. Fully conforms means every page meets all level A and AA success criteria, with no exceptions.

WCAG 2.2 AA is also the web requirement in EN 301 549 v4.1.1, the European standard for accessible ICT used with the European Accessibility Act. This is a personal website, so neither that Act nor the UK's public sector accessibility regulations apply to it, but I hold it to the same standard.

What you can do on this site

  • Zoom in to 400% without having to scroll sideways.
  • Change text size, spacing, fonts and colours with your browser settings or extensions without losing content.
  • Reach every link and control with a keyboard, with a clearly visible focus outline.
  • Find your way with a screen reader using headings, landmarks and link text that makes sense on its own.
  • Know in advance which links open a new tab, because screen readers announce it.
  • Turn off motion. Page transitions stop when your device is set to reduce motion.
  • Get more contrast. Secondary text and borders get brighter when your device asks for more contrast, and the layout works with Windows contrast themes.
  • Use the site without JavaScript. The only feature that needs it is the analytics switch on the privacy page.

How I tested

The site was last tested on , with:

  • automated checks with axe-core against the WCAG 2.2 A and AA rules, on every page, at desktop width and at 320 pixels wide
  • keyboard-only navigation through every page, checking focus order and focus visibility
  • reflow at 320 CSS pixels wide, the same as 400% zoom on a 1280 pixel screen, with and without WCAG's text spacing overrides
  • Windows contrast themes, reduced motion and increased contrast, emulated in Chromium
  • contrast ratios measured for every text and focus colour against its background

Known limitations

I do not know of any accessibility problems on this site. If you find one, please tell me. Links to GitHub, LinkedIn and npm go to sites I do not control, and their accessibility may differ.

Compatibility

The site is plain HTML and CSS. It is built to work in current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari, and with screen readers such as VoiceOver, NVDA, JAWS and TalkBack.
